Scottish Rite work begins January 24 with Secret Master degree to be exemplified under J H Johnson. Rose Croix under R J Evans and Consistory under H T Greer.

Washington reports a turbulent session ends with the House approving a reapportionment bill that fixes the House at 425 members for ten years. A secondary push by Rep. Tinkham to reduce seats in states denying Black voters the ballot reignites debate, but Rep. Longworth’s point of order against the amendment is sustained after two hours of debate.
A letter from Mrs Emma James national and state deputy of Good Samaritans based in Cincinnati Ohio urges readers to join the order and walk in the light. She notes fifty years of foundation and six years as state deputy and promises ongoing leadership at national level amid warnings of wartime influence and misused funds.

Mrs Frances Beauchamp of Lexington, president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, denounces tobacco use at the Fifth District WCTU convention in Louisville. She claims tobacco is more dangerous than alcohol and vows to prevent children from smoking, accusing the tobacco industry and professors of misinformation.
Indictments charging murder in connection with the lynching of William Baird a miner near Jasper were returned today by a special grand jury against nine members of Company M state militia of Tuscaloosa County.
