Sloop Adrift Off Florida Coast Found By Two Negro Fishermen

Two Black fishermen brought a 35 ton unmanned sloop into West Palm Beach harbor after finding it under sail about 14 miles off Jupiter in the Gulf Stream. The vessel bore the word British and the initials N. H. on the bow and appeared recently abandoned. Provisions valued at 1000 were aboard, and identifying papers were found. Authorities think it may have been used as a smuggling craft and likely Bahama-made. The crew’s departure was unexplained and the ship was near-collision with the fishermen.
