A grand reception at the Y last week honored Secretary and Mrs Bookwalter. A choice program and elaborate Silver Service marked the event. Fraternities and many organizations contributed to the testimonial and represented at the gathering. Secretary Dunbar’s executive leadership and Mrs Bookwalter’s assistance were noted, with General Chairman J H Robinson earning praise.
The farewell event for Mr and Mrs A G Bookwalter drew a large representative audience. Guests enjoyed a program of musical numbers and expressions of appreciation. A handsome colonial silver service gift was funded by subscriptions from twenty churches three schools and twenty five other organizations. a later financial report will be mailed to them. The Union Baptist Church was unintentionally omitted from the donor list.
The executive secretary of the Negro Civil Welfare Committee J H Robinson who served as general chairman thanks all who helped to bestow appreciation where belonged.
William Johnson a 19 year old African American pleaded guilty to petty larceny in a burglary case related to a night theft at Nathan Raboff’s store. Judge Stanley Matthews suspended the sentence for 30 days after character testimony from Morgan and Riverside school principals praising Johnson’s conduct and attendance.
Mrs. Rev. Green hosted the Carnation Embroidery Club No. 1 last Thursday, entertaining club members with fellowship and craft discussions.
Mrs. Anderson Mrs. Speaks and Mr. George Johnson were summoned to Chicago after the passing of their sister.
John MecPartlin a 30 year old deputy district superintendent of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company was arrested on a warrant alleging an attack. Helen Fisher 16 alleges he mistreated her during insurance payments at her home. Her husband reported she was ill. McPartlin was released on bond and proclaimed innocence.

On Fourth Street near Plum Mr W M Porter crossed into a buggy as a horse hopped across to Plum Street. The buggy struck an auto truck at the curb throwing Porter violently. He was rushed to the hospital and is reported much better.
The O'Bryanville Benevolent Society will meet at Mrs. B Moors on February 11.
