Charles Sutton, 34, Negro, was shot through the heart and killed instantly at the Murray Hotel near Russell and Avey streets. Lizzie Julia Williams, 32, Negress, is named by police as the shooter. Sutton’s body found in a hotel hallway as employees reported the shot. Williams, previously involved in a 1922 husband killing case, was exonerated for self defense.
