Two Ugandan Catholic priests Father Michael Mugerwa and Father Charles Matovu, and layman Mr. Joseph Kyagmbidda, are pursuing studies in the United States on scholarships arranged by Most Rev. Joseph Kiwanuka. Mugerwa and Matovu study at St Louis University in Missouri while Kyagmbidda studies music at Xavier University in New Orleans. They are the first Ugandan Catholics to come to the United States for higher education.

Illinois public health statistics show heart disease leading deaths in the first half of 1950 with 19 232 fatalities. Cancer ranks second at 7 062, followed by vascular lesions 4 668 and accidents 2 249. Pneumonia and influenza total 1 347, tuberculosis 1 116, general arteriosclerosis 984, nephritis and nephrosis 928, diabetes 843, and congenital malformations 480.
Ralph J. Bunche holder of the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize was received in a special audience by Pope Pius XII in Vatican City. Bunche, accompanied by his wife, formerly acted as UN mediator in Palestine and is now director of trusteeship in the UN secretariat.
Northwestern National Life Insurance Company released startling figures claiming autos killed 442,970 Americans in 14 years, surpassing deaths in all U.S. wars from Revolutionary War to Korea. The report also says 13 times as many Americans were injured by cars as nonfatal war casualties.
Xavier University officials announced a nationwide drive to raise 1,000,000 dollars by April 30, 1951 to support the Xavier Development Program General chairman will be Joel M. Bowlby head of Eagle-Picker Company The lay advisory board has backed Bowlby for four years and he received an honorary Doctor of Laws from Xavier in 1948.
