Black Beauty and the White Lawyer on a Joliet plot
A Chicago Defender report recounts Mary Cottrell known as the Black Beauty testifying in Judge Pam's court about a complex six and a half year affair with white lawyer Jay Cotell. She helped stage an $1,627.50 bank theft, using Cotell's wife’s name, then was exposed and jailed. Cotell was found guilty of a confidence game and awaits a new trial.
