Delaware streets 41, charged with manslaughter in the death of Edward Gastineau 27, at General Hospital after a late Sunday incident. Streets released on 1000 bond. Gastineau found dazed near George and Smith. doctors report skull fracture. Streets says he struck Gastineau after a man chased his sister Electra Streets aged 13 at their mother’s home. street claim Gastineau fell and fractured his skull on the sidewalk.
A white detective, William Lawson, shot two Black men after a confrontation on Sixth and John Streets, and was later dismissed by Judge Bernard C. Fox who said Lawson acted after being attacked. A Black man on a separate trip from Coney Island faced a mob and used a knife in self defense. police and courts intervened, raising questions about race and justice.
In New York on August 23 Sylvester Crockett a Black inmate who set fire to his clothing in Tombs Prison after soaking it with kerosene died today He had been sentenced to Sing Sing for five years for assaulting a policeman.
In Norwood yesterday a car struck a telegraph pole on Carthage Avenue Dale road injuring three occupants, all described as William Smith Daniel Calmese and Everett Amos. The white driver Elmer Kelly faced liquor and driving while intoxicated charges. Calmese paid a $25 fine. the others jailed. Kelly fined $100 and six months’ jail plus liquor found in car.
In Augusta Georgia a masked mob forced entry at a university hospital and seized Walter Smalley a Black man who killed two white men and wounded four others They carried his body beyond the city limits and burned it The disturbance began with the killing of Ben T Hightower wagon works manager Smalley was a chauffeur Policeman W W Moore was also shot dead.
Chicago dispatch reports hundreds of men joined the Ku Klux Klan at an initiation near Lake Zurich. About 2000 were blindfolded in heavy rain as William J. Simmons of Atlanta administered the oath. The scene drew claims of large attendance and concern over the Klan’s purpose.
In Kingfisher Oklahoma on August 12 Paul Sykes marks twenty eight years as pastor of the Straight Gate church. He is famed for meeting trains for nineteen years and singing for Loaves and Fishes. He has danced over 30000 times, collecting about $20000 in coins tucked in his left pocket.
A community figure has been pastor since, using depot funds to construct a small church. He preaches on Sunday mornings and evenings and speaks to white residents on Sunday afternoons. Recollections mention a possible dance, with speculation about the person named Paul or Jimmy, noted for dancing the shimmy.
Dr J Garland Penn corresponding secretary of the Board of Education for Negroes of the Methodist Episcopal Church travels to London September 6 to 16 1921 as an invited speaker at the Ecumenical Conference and later to Louisville for the National Medical Association opening program on September 23 He has been honored as the first lay and honorary member of the NMA and has recently been named to the National Inter-Racial Commission of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America The Board of Education for Negroes notes a million dollar building program while praising his ongoing leadership and recent presentation of a gold watch and chain
The Crispus Attacks Building and Loan Assn of Lockland Ohio files a financial statement for the year ending May 28 1921 detailing assets liabilities profits and losses. It lists cash on hand loans on mortgage securities credits and reserves and notes the auditing committee and secretary certify the accuracy of the report.

Samuel Dial, 42, Negro, of 755 West Eighth Street, was arrested on a warrant filed by Dr. Oscar M Craven Health Department official after complaints that he prescribed a nerve medicine for five dollars per visit without a license. The affidavit alleges numerous West End complaints.
