An African American man, John Lawson Hunter, reportedly defied a white policeman who ordered trespassers off a downtown street. Firing followed as the officer went after him, killing the policeman. The piece questions police bias and racial double standards, imagining a reverse scenario where a Negro officer faced similar danger from white suspects.
Columbus column attacks Ku Klux Klan founder W J Simmons arguing the Knights claim no racial prejudice while seeking white supremacy and urging equal citizenship for Negroes despite hostile white critics. The piece urges study of history before judging efforts to suppress and depress Black rights.

Delegates raised 9500 for expense funds, Bishop Lee received a gold chain for his 57th birthday, and Education Secretary J W Martin noted ten schools and 7000 acres owned, with 125000 raised in six months for education and a 75000 appropriation urged for Livingstone School.
LAW STUDENT Ruth Whitehead Whaley, at 267 West 8th Street, the first colored student in Fordham University Law School, repeats an A plus average this term. Despite teaching in winter on Albany Street, her year’s marks include A in Violence, Sales, Equity, Corporations, Will and Damages, with A minus in Notes Real Property and Bankruptcy. she enters the Senior class in the fall and urges opportunity over race.
London July 17 survey lists Henry Ford as the richest with about 500 million dollars. Rockefeller, Mellon, and others follow. notes on wealth, charity, and the unrealized potential of Black inventors amid social constraints. Mentions Klan trustees negotiating to take over Valparison University to avert collapse.
