Superintendent R C Barnard said the investigation is not finished and the track curve near Lester road hid the approaching train. He believed the excursion train ignored No 11 from Lebanon and failed to wait at East Norwood on the double track. Both engines were moving fast, with the excursion engine pushed into the passenger coach. Reverend B F Smith rushed to Pleasant Ridge to comfort families after learning Richard Stovall Jr died. Frank Braxton sold watermelon in the third coach when the wreck occurred. Anna Howard aged 57, blind, was in the first coach.
