On a Friday night about 11 30 a woman was thrown from a second floor window on Sixth near Central Avenue. A dark man fled after the incident as police arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital. A somber note of sudden danger in the city.

A Colored Committee chiefly of soldiers met with the Mayor this week over fire department employment. The St Andrews Church Guild proposed offering Colored men to form a full company, noting Industrial School Chauffeurs could handle autos. Authorities urged waiting for friction to subside to avoid appearing as strike breakers, hoping for better chances later. Tadlock said Colored applicants met Safety Director Holmes favorably for future positions, with belief the men can excel if given a chance.
Miss Irene Griffin has been ill for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davenport have returned to Chicago. Dr. Chas Schooley is much improved. Sergeant Major Al Brooks who won the highest honors on the battle fields of Europe for bravery and was wounded several times spoke at Brown Chapel Sunday. He and Mrs Brooks nee Grace Jones will reside in Columbus. A reception will be tendered Friday night by Mrs Kate Samples her aunt in her residence.
Our little Colored Boy Scouts have made a splendid showing in the great crisis now upon our city. They have done their duty and with the white boy scouts they deserve great credit.

Lieut. Commander A. E. Younie of Portland Ore senior surgeon aboard the transport Sierra treated a British sailor 100 miles away without sight of the patient. Using wireless telegraphy symptoms were reported and treatment prescribed. the patient improved and recovered. A later six-doctor conference on influenza aboard the Powhatan and Serra used wireless telephone, but Younie’s remote diagnosis stood out as a singular naval medical feat.
An inspection of ballots shows Chicago Negroes delivered a large share of Thomp son’s 11 500 plurality, especially in Second Ward. Sweitzer and Hoyne benefited as Thompson’s total fell 147,090 from four years ago amid a 688 400 total and 813 000 registered voters.
