Italian Sailors Strike Aboard Calabria Over Polish Troop Transport
Fifty five Italian sailors from the Calabria of the Anchor line struck on August 13 in protest of sailing Polish troops to Danzig to fight Soviet Russia. They refused to work and were forced ashore after their belongings were thrown overboard. The crew, members of the Italian Seamen's union, condemned wartime transport of troops and promoted workers unity across nations. The union plans amendments to its constitution and held a banquet for strikers with praise from American labor groups.
