British medical experts said tear gas used by police in Londonderry Bogside during Catholic riots Aug 12 16 would have no long term effects. The report could quiet protests over the initial use of CS gas in the British Isles. Catholic leaders had complained it was a military type with grave effects on breathers.

Insect Cloud Blamed For 1968 Milwaukee Jet Collision

NTSB report cites thousands of tiny insects splattered on an aircraft windshield as a factor in a August 4 1968 in flight collision near Milwaukee. A Cessna single engine plane struck a North Central Airlines Convair, killing the Cessna pilot and two passengers while the Convair landed safely with ten aboard. The Convair copilot was injured and the pilot noted a thick insect cloud as the windscreen fogged like a snow shower during the event.

Manhattan Sails Through 15-Foot Arctic Ice Pack

Aboard the S S Manhattan the ship entered the Baffin Ice Pack after daylight and by afternoon pushed through ice over 15 feet thick. The voyage marks the largest vessel to sail beyond the Arctic Circle as ice covers six tenths of the area, with multi year floes and aging ice turning from white to aqua and blue.
