Arden Hill Hospital has lowered lighting and thermostat levels in nonpatient areas to conserve energy. Night lighting now runs in all hallways and stairways, with lobbies and administrative corridors dimmed to every other fixture. Cafeteria lights are halved and visitors parking lights reduced by one third, while employee parking remains full for security. Essential areas keep maximum lighting, and nonpatient spaces are heated to 68 degrees while patient areas stay at 72 to 74 degrees.

Mills approves budget cuts in Orange County
Orange County Executive Louis V. Mills signed off Monday on the county legislature’s revisions to the proposed 1974 budget. The panel had trimmed about 230,000 from Mills’ request, reducing a planned 600,000 cut to 200,000 after accounting for retirement funds, employee raises, and state aid changes. The adopted plan sets a true value tax rate near 12.40, down 1.50, but actual assessed rates rise in 10 towns and Port Jervis, with Crawford largest at 12.48 and Montgomery dropping to 4.29 per 1,000.

Mangione case in Dutchess seeks pre-trial rulings

Robber’s bail set at fifty thousand in Monroe case
Donald Gee, 22, of Brooklyn, held after a 1970 robbery of two Grand Union workers en route to a Harriman bank. Co-defendants Kevin OConnell and Daniel Canal also charged. Gee’s bail was set at 50,000 by Orange County Judge Abraham S. Isseks. sentencing adjourned to December 10. Canal received an 0-5 year term. OConnell later got five years probation. Gee pleaded to third degree robbery but previously failed to appear in July 1972.
