World Communist summit set for Moscow next May

Russia won 67 nation backing for a Moscow summit of world Communist leaders with allies Britain Switzerland and Reunion opposing. The plan emerged after Western Communist rebels objected and set a date and agenda for the gathering. In Charleston South Carolina British author Gordon Langley Hall, who says he is Dame Margaret Rutherford’s adopted son, has undergone sex reassignment to marry his Negro butler John Paul Simmons nine years his junior. Hall, 39, known for a 1964 Jacqueline Kennedy biography, also wrote works on Princess Margaret and Lady Bird Johnson. A close friend suggested the union could be a publicity ploy to boost book sales.

Mideast clashes leave soldiers wounded on border

Jordanian and Israeli patrols clashed at two Jordan River points. Jordan reported one soldier killed and several Israelis wounded. In Jerusalem an Israeli spokesman said Jordanians fired mortars. Israel reported no Israeli casualties amid an hour of sporadic fire.
