Washington UPI says the nation’s Roman Catholic bishops held a preliminary secret vote on a proposed pastoral letter about birth control. Details and outcome were not disclosed after the closed session as security guarded the document and its contents.

Soviet party chief Brezhnev visited Polish steel works while Czech ex premier Jozef Lenart spoke at the Polish Party Congress. Bulgarian and East German delegates largely absent during Lenart's address, choosing factory tours instead. Lenart led Czechoslovakia during Novotny's Stalinist regime.
Washington space agency on Wednesday announced the Apollo 10 crew, a three man team of veterans. Thomas P. Stafford, Eugene A. Cernan, and John W. Young will fly the mission seen as a precursor to the first manned lunar landing next year.
Government reports two kidnapped executives Ward Smith of New York and Joffre Leon Orellana an Ecuadorian were found bound and gagged near the Coffea Robusta plantation about 90 miles from Guayaquil. Smith was the plantation manager and Orellana the chief accountant. They were seized by leftist workers demanding higher wages.
