Sectarian books spark clash over new textbook law

Thousands march as local parochial and public schools clash over the states controversial textbook law. Private schools ordered sectarian texts from public districts while public schools refuse payment and plan to send the books back or seek reimbursement. The issue exposes how both sectors interpret the law, which allows private pupils up to 15 dollars for nonsectarian texts but was ruled unconstitutional last year and is under appeal. Goshen district Superintendent Lawrence Bartnick says the district will implement the law in good faith, yet parochial schools Burke Catholic High and St Johns Elementary also ordered texts, with signings and unclear reasoning cited.
