Drown them in vats dominates Texas chicken crisis story
Texas chicken producer Madison Clement bought 42,000 day old chicks and drowned them in vats to cut feed costs, reflecting a regional squeeze as feed prices soar and retail prices lag. Across the South, growers cut broiler output and burn off breeders, forecasting a retail chicken shortage in eight to ten weeks while feed costs spike and incubation trims shrink.
