Embattled camp holds line near Dak To fight continues

UPI reports Ben Het camp on three hills held despite a 48 day siege as 500 South Vietnamese infantrymen moved to open Route 512 toward Dak To amid heavy North Vietnamese shelling. Air resupply continued as artillery fire blocked helicopter landings. U.S. advisers note large enemy force in Dak To Kontum area with significant casualties on both sides.

August draft call 29,500 and Vietnam returnees

The Pentagon set an August draft call at 29,500 with 900 GIs due back from Vietnam by July 9. The Army will shrink overall by 13,000 as 8,000 withdrawals are not replaced and 5,000 more exits are not refilled, while first Vietnam returnees from the 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Division depart July 8 for discharge or new assignments.
