Pompidou Inaugurated as France President in Paris

Georges Pompidou was sworn in as France’s president in a rain soaked ceremony at the Elysee Palace. He named Jacques Chaban-Delmas as premier and pledged loyalty to de Gaulle’s ideals while de Gaulle watched on television from his home.

Flight schedules return to normal after sick strike

United Press International reports the weekend air travel rush began under nearly normal conditions following a two-day sick strike by air traffic controllers. While some Newark flights were canceled for equipment reasons, most schedules were back on track Friday with delays limited to the afternoon. earlier chaos left 1,000 New York flights delayed, 300 canceled, and thousands of passengers stranded or sleeping in terminals.

Explosions Hit Wailing Wall Area in Jerusalem

Three blasts near the Wailing Wall wounded four people, including two American tourists, as Sabbath crowds gathered. Egyptian military reports claim Israel fired rockets into Suez City and nearby towns along the southern end of the Suez Canal in heavy bombardment. The blasts damaged a house and blocked Hasharsheret Street used by worshippers and visitors.
