Liddy shakes off GOP loss in 28th District race
Gordon Liddy of Poughkeepsie defeated by Hamilton Fish Jr. for the Republican nomination in the 28th District primary. Liddy, a former FBI agent and Dutchess County assistant prosecutor, has no Conservative rival and may run in November. He called his loss a moral victory and said he would decide soon about a possible Conservative candidacy. Fish, backed across five counties, said he aims for a broader campaign in the fall. Official results were awaited, with Dutchess County still counting votes.

Development plans withdrawn at Hamptonburgh hearing
The Hamptonburgh Town Planning Board accepted the withdrawal of a 19‑lot subdivision application by Mrs. Kenneth K. Kirwan of Ridgewood New Jersey for Bowman Heights on 75 acres at Hamptonburgh Road after failing to obtain State Health Department approval. The board set a 7:30 p.m. July 15 public hearing on Elek Nagy’s request to sell a one acre parcel on a nonstandard right of way, and approved a three‑lot subdivision of 16 acres owned by Fred Dykstra, with maps to be filed. Fish supporters conceded defeat in Dutchess County with unofficial returns around 500 votes. Dyson challenges Fish in November with debates planned to address crime inflation tax reform poverty rural development Vietnam and foreign aid.
