Pacifists protest on Capitol steps read war dead names

Quaker demonstrators were arrested on the Capitol steps after reading the names of U S war dead. Lawrence Scott said protests would rise to twice daily. Five House members, immune from arrest, watched as the 16 demonstrators were led away. Rep Edward Koch warned of civil rights implications.

Army doctors reported good progress toward a vaccine against the common meningitis type with a target of meeting all requirements after 3 more years. Of 15,500 GIS vaccinated, only one contracted meningitis as experiments pass 100,000, amid past outbreaks at several camps causing 125 deaths since 1964.
