Washington, D.C. U.S. Interior official Herbert Ashman says gasoline stocks east of the Rockies exceed needs by 183 million barrels, with production at a record over seven million barrels daily. He notes shortages now are due to distribution fluctuations and surplus limits, not physical shortages, and expects improvement as a new balance forms.
