Federal woes block flood control in Liberty by Weisinger
Village officials hear that congressional red tape and frozen federal funds will delay flood control projects 3 to 5 years. Army Corps deputy district engineer Lt Col James Newsom offered vague timelines while 25 residents and local officials attended the Liberty hearing. The Corps proposed five options including a 13 acre reservoir along Lewis Street Brook, each with different cost shares and a 50 year project life, but gave no preferred plan.

Selection panel chair opposes CLT reappraisal
Monticello Fremont Supervisor Joseph Winkler, chair of the three member committee that selected Cole Layer Trumble for a 616000 countywide reappraisal contract, says he still opposes reappraisal and CLT. The panel is due to reconvene. Chairman Milton Levine had refused to sign the CLT contract. Criticism centers on lack of competing proposals and questions about lead negotiator Hanofee’s role.
