Striking actors shut two Broadway shows as walkout begins
New York UPI reports actors walked out at 12:20 a.m. EDT Sunday, halting matinees and threatening 19 Broadway shows by Monday. Among affected are Oliver and The Deputy with 670 performers sidelined. 17 more could close if talks fail. Some producers reached separate deals and will continue. The strike centers on pay, with Equity seeking about 15 more per week over four years versus the league's offer of 5 more initially and 5 more by year four. Off Broadway remains untouched.
