Surrendered suspect in Chowchilla kidnap case in California
Richard Schoenfeld, one of three armed kidnapping suspects in the Chowchilla bus abduction, surrendered in Alameda County with his father and attorney present. The other two suspects James Schoenfeld and Fred Woods remained at large as authorities seek 27 counts of kidnapping and 16 counts of robbery. The bus driver and 26 children were freed after escaping from a buried truck in Livermore following a two van transfer from the scene.
