Grand jury to probe links in nine insurance money killings

Rochester and Monroe County detectives will present James Turner 44 of Scottsville for a special grand jury investigation into at least eight additional killings. Turner already faces murder charges in his brother in law Dwight Dees death found in a ditch. Investigators believe Turner collected life insurance on victims, with cases spanning Florida and New York reducing to suspected murder for profit.

Ward named to head New York correctional services

Governor Hugh L. Carey appoints Benjamin Ward 48 formerly NYC Traffic Commissioner as commissioner of Correctional Services. Ward, first Black to hold the post, succeeds Peter Preiser as the Attica era department oversees about 15 000 inmates in 25 facilities and 10 000 statewide. Ward’s background includes police service and legal work with the Vera Institute of Justice.

Police hunt two suspects in Fraunces Tavern bombing

NY police searched rubble for clues after Friday's blast at the Fraunces Tavern annex killed four and wounded many. Investigators planned to mobilize Wall Street workers to distribute leaflets seeking sightings as they pursued two step-in van leads and surveyed the scene with about 20 fire units.

Harper and Row Publishes Agreement To Improve Diversity

Harper and Row Publishers Inc agreed to recruit hire train and promote women and minority group members in professional sales and managerial roles and to eliminate salary and title disparities for equal work. The firm will set up an internal grievance procedure and submit to a compliance review by the attorney general after one year.

Wilson to urge pro-EEC vote in Britain
