Beacon fire claims five in Union Street blaze
Frank A Piccone tried to rescue his wife Mary and four daughters Debra 18 Mary Lou 17 Nancy 14 Susan 8 from a second story fire at 28 Union Street Beacon. He saved 14 year old Joseph before jumping to safety and was burned over 30 percent. Police said he is in fair condition at Highland Hospital. A neighbor recalled his anguished cry Oh my God I heard them screaming. Firefighters searched the two story frame house for the cause, as authorities noted five people perished in the early morning blaze.
