Ulster legislator quits GOP in Ulster County

Ulster County Legislator Brian R. White of Milton announces he is leaving the Republican party saying it is unprogressive locally and nationally. White, a seven year veteran and chair of the public health committee, sought GOP hearings on reform but was ignored. He may run on the Democratic line if nominated. enrollment becomes effective January 1976. In Sullivan County, two 10 week English for foreigners courses are offered by Sullivan County Community College at Monticello Middle School with late registration possible.

Religious group buys Camp Ta-Go-La in Sackett Lake

A Long Island Hebrew congregation bought Camp Ta-Go-La near Sackett Lake and plans tax exempt status for the 80 acre site, estimated purchase above 200000 dollars. The sale, along with Schenk's Hotel in Thompsonville to Bobover Yeshiva B'nei Zion of Brooklyn, could remove two properties from the tax rolls and impact Sullivan County taxes. Thompson Supervisor Kaufman urged state action to stabilize tax revenues and proposed limits and subsidies for land with high exemptions.
