Powell to Lose Wife Aide in House Ethics Probe

House investigators fired Rep. Adam Clayton Powell's wife Yvette Powell from a $20,578 year congressional post and questioned his trips with a secretary Corrine Huff. The subcommittee found the employment violated rules and cited taxpayer-financed travel under assumed names. The full committee adopted the recommendations, while Powell faces possible congressional or legal action as the inquiry continues.

Pope to meet Soviet leader at Vatican in historic audience

Ford Foundation funds civil rights groups with 703000 grant

McGeorge Bundy, president of the Ford Foundation, announced a $703,000 grant in 1967 to the National Urban League and the NAACP. He said the era of legislative and judicial action for equal opportunity is moving to a stage of active citizenship and rights exercise.
