London reports Prime Minister Edward Heath survived a confidence vote 309 to 301 on Britain's Common Market ratification amid an electric power crisis. The result narrows the Conservative majority to eight as a coal miners strike worsens layoffs and unemployment tops three million.
UPI reports Radio Hanoi claimed seven American planes were downed and several crewmen killed or captured during a 29-hour bombing campaign into North Vietnam. The U.S. command confirmed one F4 Phantom loss and said search and rescue operations were ongoing. Military sources noted a fresh squadron of Phantoms arrived from Clark AFB to replace lost aircraft.
