4500 Armed Guards Posted at U.S. Airports
With a court order the anti hijacking security program went into full effect posting 4500 armed guards at airport boarding gates nationwide. Airports say funding and staffing may limit long term viability as FAA reports most airports have begun compliance though exemptions exist in Alaska and some seasonal or part time operations.

British soldier wounded in Belfast violence

Banker's Infant Daughter Kidnapped in Freeport
The four year old daughter of a Canadian bank manager, Andrea Spencer, was kidnapped from her Freeport home on Thursday night by two armed men and held for ransom. Deputy Police Commissioner Gerald Bartlett did not confirm a reported $250,000 ransom but said it would not be unreasonable to speculate on the amount.
