Dr Eugene Blake, prominent civil rights advocate and former head of the United Presbyterian Church in the U S, was elected general secretary of the World Council of Churches in Geneva. The Rev. Eugene Carson Blake served briefly as assistant pastor at Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Middletown while a Princeton student in 1931. He led Camp Townsend and returned in 1954 for Webb Horton’s centennial as stated clerk of the General Assembly. He spoke at Calvary Church in Newburgh in 1961.
