In the Pentagon Papers case the Office of Security Review swore under oath that no papers were removed from DoD files. The defense accused the government of concealing documents showing release did not threaten national security. Retired Lt. Col. Edward A. Miller Jr. testified that Hinkle ordered removal of studies as if they never existed and that he later aided Ellsberg’s defense after speaking with Sen. Mike Gravel.

Sniper kills British trooper in Strabane city roadblock
A sniper fatally wounded a British soldier on a Strabane roadblock hours after a Catholic worker was killed and nine wounded in a Belfast grenade attack. Militants warned of a widening religious conflict as authorities said the soldier died at the roadblock after a bomb warning. This marked Ulster's first British soldier death of the year.
