Patrol routs vastly outnumbered Communists near Saigon
A U.S. Special Forces patrol struck a Communist battalion near the North Viet Nam border about 400 miles north of Saigon, killing 25 enemies with light American losses as Christmas truce talks moved forward. In other ground fights, 65 Communists were killed and 24 captured in two separate engagements. Meanwhile, U.S. air raids on Haiphong area targets continued, including a rail bridge strike 18 miles west of Haiphong with 13 tons dropped in predawn fog.
