Lebanese Journalist Jailed in Syria for Spying

Jalal Al Turk, a Lebanese journalist, was sentenced by Syria's Supreme State Security Court to six years and three months in prison on spying charges. He confessed, saying he passed information to Israel about Arab guerrilla groups and received 1550 dollars plus Rome air tickets from Israeli agents at the Israeli Embassy in Rome.

Jews celebrate Chanukah at Alcatraz dedication

Jewish sympathizers delivered food and blankets to Alcatraz inmates Sunday and celebrated Chanukah among prison ruins. Dr Steven Faffin and American Jewish Congress members crossed San Francisco Bay aboard a boat laden with traditional Hebrew food for a ceremony marking the eight day festival commemorating Jerusalem's liberation from Syrians in ancient times.

Stennis urges carnage probe via special commission

Senate Armed Services Committee chairman John Stennis urged President Nixon to create a special, civilian commission to investigate alleged killings of Vietnamese civilians. He favored an impartial private study by outstanding individuals over congressional hearings and said the panel should report to the president. President Nixon spent Sunday at Camp David amid snow and speculation of troop withdrawals, which the White House denied would be announced at today's news conference.
