Egypt owes Russia 7.5 billion in arms debt

United Press International reports An Nahar says Egypt has a 7.5 billion dollar debt to the Soviet Union for military equipment and spends 5 million dollars daily to maintain its armed forces. Jordan's King Hussein questions Arab victory prospects and hints at possible peace talks with Israel.

Mostly sunny today with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s and a mild evening. Tonight and Tuesday bring increasing clouds, a slight shower or flurry risk, and a sharp cooldown by evening with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s and a 10 to 20 percent chance of precipitation. Train collision injures over four hundred in Bangladesh

A head on collision between two passenger trains near Parbatipur in northern Bangladesh injures more than 400 people. The Bangladesh news agency reports the injured were hospitalized with no further details provided.

King Hussein doubts Arabs can defeat Israel in war

King Hussein of Jordan appealed for durable peace in the Middle East on Sunday. He said he did not believe Arab military strength could match Israel’s and that war was not a solution to the problem.

Easter observances mark Northern Ireland and Ireland uprisings

Catholics across Northern Ireland and the Republic observed Easter commemorations for the 1916 uprising with parades and wreaths. In Belfast Ballymurphy gunfire exchanged between troops and a sniper. In Dublin President De Valera presided over a flag raising as 73 marches were planned nationwide. A separate crash in Dimmitt, Texas killed all ten occupants when a fleeing car hit a four-teenager and others.

Chou and Mintoff denounce superpower hegemony in the Mediterranean

Victim testifies in Angela Davis trial in San Jose

In San Jose California deputy district attorney Gary Thomas, paralyzed in the Marin County escape attempt and shootings of 1970, is set to testify as the next state witness. The case centers on Angela Davis, 28, charged with murder kidnapping and conspiracy for allegedly supplying guns used in the courthouse seizure by Jonathan Jackson and three women. The state argues the hostages were seized to demand release of the Soledad Brothers.
