Edward Hansen wins Kimball Spud Meet
Edward Hansen won first place in a potato picking contest at Kimball Friday among 12 contestants with a record 1,478 pounds in 30 minutes. Manuel Frohm, last year’s winner, was second with 1,387 pounds and Robert Perry third with 1,311 pounds. The event occurred at M. D. From 95 To 29 Weather Record in Western Nebraska
Western Nebraska saw a dramatic swing from an all time high of 95 on September 20 to 29 on September 24. A 0.12 inch precipitation Friday night and brisk winds accompanied the rapid cooling. The drop began Thursday night with temperatures near freezing by Friday noon. Saturday forecasts promised warmer air with a top around 55. Friday moisture aided fall wheat and limited crop damage while farmers report the wheat looking good.

Ancient camel skull found near Broadwater by Nebraska team
Bertrand Schultz of Lincoln leads a Nebraska State Museum fossil hunt near Broadwater uncovering a nearly complete three foot long camel skull, the largest camel find in America. The digging party also found skeleton parts and plans to finish the specimen next year.

Foot Doctor Gets 8 to 12 Year Wyoming Term
An 8 to 12 year sentence was imposed in Worland Wyoming for Al Sachner alias Al Lachner and C. S. Sterling. He was arrested in Sidney after posing as a foot doctor for two weeks and evading authorities while wanted for forgery. The court confirmed his identity by matching a handwriting check. Sheriff W. W. Schulz reported the man used multiple aliases.

Parents Of Teacher Are Killed By Train
Verle Hubbard a Sidney teacher was summoned home after the death of her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Hubbard who died when their car was struck by a motor train at a Burlington crossing in Gering Nebraska. County Attorney Rush C Clarke said the crossing affords an oper view for the accident.

Registered Warrants No More At Scotts Bluff County
County Treasurer Floyd Taylor announced that the day of registered warrants in Scotts Bluff county is nearly over after payments from an $85,000 bond issue. Last week about $65,000 in warrants were paid, and this week $10,000 more were called, enabling the county vaults to be emptied for the first time in years. A transfer of $17,450 from the delinquent tax sinking fund to the general fund preceded the payoff, with Taylor expressing hope that future tax collections will cover upcoming bills.

Soldier Winner Of Rifle Trophy At Meet Sunday

Small Percentage Of Drivers Take Exams
R. W. Culwell, chief of the state highway department motor vehicle division, said 100,000 of the estimated 600,000 automobile drivers have obtained licenses under the new law since September 1. Eighty-three counties have reported, and the trend in rejections is similar. The eyesight test is the greatest stumbling block. Receipts from licenses in 32 counties total $25,206, with part of the money to administrative costs and the rest to finance the new highway patrol starting November 1.

Stolen Rushville Car Found Abandoned in Sidney
An automobile stolen in Rushville Nebraska last week was found abandoned in Sidney Saturday night. Rushville police notified and came to Sidney to claim the machine. The car appeared undamaged and authorities believe it was driven directly from Rushville to Sidney before being abandoned after running out of gas.

Cooperative Pump Irrigation Plan Discussed At Friday Meeting
Cheyenne county farmers may access FSA funds for sinking irrigation wells under a cooperative setup discussed in a hastily called chamber of commerce meeting. Andrew Britton Sees Changes In 35 Years
Andrew Britton who settled in Sidney in 1887 returned yesterday to visit old friends and found Sidney vastly different after 35 years. Soon to be 90, he recalled pioneers, events, and names from his early residence while visiting Telegraph staff with his daughter Mrs J D Eckert of Cedar Edge Colorado. They attended the Madison soldiers reunion and stayed with Mrs Rose Harper, sister-in-law to Mrs Eckert.

Malone Sends Blanks To Every Employer
Mr. R. T. Malone, Director of the Nebraska Unemployment Compensation Division, announced that Contribution Report forms were sent out September 25 to all employers liable under the Nebraska Unemployment Compensation Law. Reports must be returned with contributions by October 20. Any employer with eight or more workers in each of 20 weeks in 1936 or 1937, not exempt by law, is liable and must contribute by October 20.
