1940 Champ Is Quit Golf Tournament
The 1940 golf champion was dethroned at Sidney Country Club Sunday. Dr. Co. B. Dorwart, defending title holder, dropped a 4-3 match to Lee Ellsworth in the second round of play in the 1941 tournament to assure a different, if not new, champion this year. Three of the four semifinalists are former club champions, so the winner might be a repeat champ from former years. Curt Smith is the only newcomer, trimming Louie Johnson to reach the semifinals. Grieve moved past Babcock, Tompkins beat Gallagher, and Ellsworth advances as the other semifinalist. The four top contenders include Grieve, Smith, Tompkins, and Ellsworth. Less Damage Done To Panhandle Spuds
A frost last week did not cause the feared crop losses. The Nebraska Certified Potato Growers Association reports about half the fields were not severely damaged and growth may rebound with favorable weather. Some vines were completely killed while nearby fields were only slightly hurt. Digging may start earlier in the North Platte valley, with little change elsewhere.

County Resident Is Fined $100 and Costs
Scotts Bluff County Judge Ted R Feidler fined George Benton 47 Gurley 50 and costs of 4 after pleading guilty to drunken driving and revoked his license for six months with a permission to drive home from Scotts Bluff State patrolmen arrested Benton near Mitchell Friday night for driving all over the road and holding up traffic. Unable to pay the fine Benton was committed to the county jail. This was the first drunken driving arrest since the Mitchell five day fair began.

Denver Pilots Club Flight Lands At Sidney Airport

Nebraskan Injured In Accident At Oshkosh
Glenn Karr of Hastings, about 30, an employee of Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation district, was critically injured in an auto crash at the Highways 27 and 26 intersection in Oshkosh. His skull was fractured and he had severe bruises. Three others in the car received lesser injuries. Mrs Karr, newlywed, and Mr and Mrs George Anderson of Ogallala were treated. The car overturned after colliding with a machine driven by Warren Seng, 14 miles south west of Oshkosh. The Seng car was not badly damaged. The group was returning from a trip to Portland, Oregon via Scottsbluff and Oshkosh.
