Governor fixes Nebraska Thanksgiving on Roosevelt date
Gov Cochran announced that Nebraska will observe Thanksgiving on November 21 this year aligning with President Roosevelt’s date, one week earlier than the traditional last Thursday. Last year Nebraska had two holidays after he declined to proclaim the same day, noting plans were already made for football games and activities.
Champion 4-H Calf Sells For 19.25 At Auction
The county fair junior livestock division crowned Leon Larson with the grand champion angus calf after years of careful feeding. Ralph Anderson claimed reserve with a hereford, and Larry Sauder followed with another hereford. Larson’s grand champion sold for 19.25 per hundred to Bud Logan.

Aged Lady Victim Of Pneumonia In Cheyenne County
Mrs. Hilda Borges, 87, prominent Cheyenne County resident, died last Wednesday at her daughter’s home near Lodgepole after a battle with double pneumonia. Funeral services were held at Weyerts Lutheran Church with Rev. A. C. Huth presiding. Survived by sons Martin and Louie Borges and daughters Mrs. Schwartz Mrs. Minnie Frerichs and Mrs. George Frerichs.

Eight teams competed in county fair livestock judging with six clubs from Better The Best Huntsman Hustlers Short Grass Busy Workers and Ferdinand 4-H and two teams from Sidney High Vocational Agriculture. Huntsman Hustlers won, Leon Larson Paul Sparks Floyd Bayne, followed by Better the Best Larry Saunder Jack Lauder Harvey Miles. Rites Held Monday For G. B. Wookey Civic Leader
Glenn Wookey who died Friday after a long illness was a key Cheyenne County civic figure and lumber executive. He led The Cheyenne County Lumber Company in Sidney and earlier managed yards in Gurley and Broadwater. Born April 10 1893 near Fairbury he served in the army before moving to Fleming Cole then Sidney. Funeral services were at the Methodist church with interment in Sidney Greenwood cemetery and Masonic and veterans groups assisting.

Dr C B Dorwart wins the Stones County Club championship after a grueling 39 hole match against Don Jorgenson. Dorwart overcame a four hole deficit, led after 27 and 30 holes, endured Jorgenson’s comeback including a birdie at 34 and a 12 foot putt at 36, then halved 38 and parred 39 to clinch the title in a dramatic playoff.

Kimball Gering Road Oiling Nears Finish
Workmen spread oil on the final nine mile stretch of the Scottsbluff to Kimball highway. The project, begun in summer, regrades and culverts are finished with surface packing pending weather. Federal and state funds cover eight miles while the ninth through the state game park is state funded. The link completes the 52 mile road to Kimball paved.
