Dallas Birt, 19, captured at Chappell after escaping from Pottawattamie county jail three days earlier, is sentenced to 10 years in the Anamosa State Reformatory on an auto theft charge. He pleaded guilty to stealing a car at Council Bluffs on March 15 and driving it to Chappell where arrested. A breaking and entering count was not pressed. Sheriff Riley Nelson said Birt used second story window bars to escape Monday night.

Nebraska Fishing Seasons Open April First Says Official
The outlook for fishing in Nebraska this spring is excellent says acting Secretary Bil Lytle of the State Game Commission. Opening day April 1 will draw thousands to streams and lakes as 75,000 adult trout plus 40,000 more from Crawford hatchery boost spring stock. Last year 290,377 trout were stocked and the Missouri river catfish begin spring migrations to inland streams. The federal Crawford hatchery supplied 5,000,000 trout eggs at no cost, reducing fishing costs by about $750 this spring. Forty new nets will join 40 existing ones to harvest catfish as the season progresses.

Prominent Bridgeport Barber Joseph Humpal Dies
Joseph A. Humpal a Bridgeport barber for 26 years died in Lincoln last week. Funeral services were held Friday in Bridgeport. Born Ravenna July 23, 1887 he married Miss Ravenna Nov 24, 1909 and moved to Bridgeport in 1914. He was a Woodmen lodge member and retired two years ago. They moved to Lincoln seven months ago.
