The B. O. Tracy home at 1244 King Street in Sidney suffered heavy damage from a basement fire Sunday noon. Firefighters battled flames for over two hours, wearing gas masks as the blaze spread behind walls. The Tracys were in church. a daughter was rescued from a basement window. pets perished and most interior rooms were ruined.

Four Witters Boys In U S Navy Service
John Witters, son of Mr and Mrs H E Witters, ordered to report at the naval recruiting station in Denver then sent to a training station. He enlisted two weeks ago but has been at home awaiting orders. He is the fourth Witters son in the Navy. Harold serves on a Pacific fleet battleship after Pearl Harbor visit last December. Th Duane attends the San Diego naval trade school to become a machinist mate. Roger is in preliminary training at the Great Lakes station.

F. C. Prince longtime Beyard schools superintendent will travel to Fort Omaha for a physical exam before entering army service as a captain in the reserves. A World War I veteran and former first lieutenant, he has attended officer training schools and taught at western Nebraska officers schools. War Production To Alter AAA Program In Nebraska
Nebraska State AAA committee announces an amendment to the 1942 soil conserving rule. It aims to boost plantings of soybeans, sugar beets, flax, canning crops, dry beans and peas on farms applying good practice with nurse crops. The plan reserves 40 percent of war crop acreage for soil conservation. An example shows a farm with a 20 acre minimum must devote portions of cropland to soil conserving purposes, including old alfalfa and a nurse crop seeding.

Sidney's improved basketball team captured the district Class 5 championship at Ogallala with a 33 to 23 win over Ogallala and earned a state meet berth in Lincoln to face Geneva, the 2 seed, in the first round.
