Public Health Nurse Begins Service in Sidney
Miss Cecelia Boyle arrived to serve as public health nurse in Sidney. A second nurse is expected by July 1 to cover Cheyenne county. Boyle will work with the county health nurse and state sanitarian in the courthouse basement on sanitation issues from population growth linked to the war project. She trained in public health at the University of Minnesota and with the Visiting Nurses Association of Omaha.

WPA Takes Notice of Farm Labor Need
The War Manpower Commission's labor policy committee pressed Paul V. McNutt to urge Congress and the budget bureau to fund harvest labor for military and civilian needs. It warned that without appropriations President Roosevelt should use emergency funds to ensure food production and warned against private alien labor recruitment due to agency recruitment failures. Mrs. John Griffin, 998, an early Sidney resident, died recently in Cheyenne where she and her husband built and ran the Metropol itan Hotel in Sidney. The couple later operated a Cheyenne hotel of the same name that burned down years ago.

Bus Truck Collision Near Sundl Leaves No Serious Injuries
A Burlington bus and a small truck collided one mile east of Sundl on highway No 30 early Sunday. Bus and truck occupants were taken to Sidney for treatment but none were badly hurt. Bus driver Merle Fulton injured a leg. Four Hensen children from Bell City Missouri were hospitalized overnight en route to Idaho.

18 Minute Blackout In Sidney Saturday
Sidney suffered an 18 minute electrical outage Saturday as the large Diesel unit at the power plant balked during a period when the transmission line was being reconnected to lines serving a war project nearby. R. M. McCandless, Sidney district manager, said normal service would have continued if both the Diesel and transmission line were in service. The 18 minute outage was precisely timed by Mr McCandless.

Wheat Damaged By Continued Rainfall
Continued rains and cool weather threaten a vast winter wheat acreage as moisture stagnates the crop. Up to Sunday night Sidney reported 13.65 inches of precipitation since January 1, with a quarter inch on Sunday. A Cheyenne county wind storm damaged storage, lines, and uprooted wheat, while hail and rain caused further losses across farms near Huntsman and Sidney. Some wheat may recover if future weather turns favorable.

Four escaped soldiers seized at Fort Francis Warren Wyoming
Military and civilian authorities captured four of eleven men who escaped the main army guardhouse at Fort Francis E. Warren. The four named are Sheldon Lee 25 from an unknown address Harry H. Cholewin 37 of Chicago Henry F. Schneider 24 of Ingleside Michigan and Lynn R. Hoffman 30 from Haigler Nebraska. Lee was seized at Lusk and the others near Carpenter Wyoming.
