Weather reports say rain storms Sunday interrupted a severe heat wave across the Midwest. Temperatures fell sharply though moisture was limited, bringing brief relief to cornfields. Cheyenne County saw uneven activity with Sidney reporting .08 inch of rain and Gurley Dal ton showers. More rain is forecast and high temperatures should ease, with Cheyenne County unsettled. A major storm lashed Sidney and Cheyenne County Sunday night with intense lightning and thunder causing brief power outages. Western Public Service line was knocked out at Northport, Sidney lights flickered back on soon after, and no fires were reported though a prairie blaze required the Sidney fire department. Cheyenne County also reported a record wheat shipment, 417 carloads worth about 834000 bushels, as farmers move grain to market amid high storage in bins awaiting higher prices.

Former Gurley Lady Emma White Dies at Son's Home
Emma White a longtime Gurley resident died Friday at the Englewood home of her son Guy Thompson after a period of illness. She had lived with son Harry Thompson in Gurley and was well known locally. Funeral services were held at 1:30 PM yesterday at the Dalton Presbyterian Church with interment in Dalton Cemetery. Gehrig Funeral Service in charge. Her two sons survive as her only children.

Over 100 Register At Playground Is Report
More than one hundred youngsters signed up for the playground project last week, reports Mary Murphy director. Girls won the attendance contest from the boys in a close race. The project will not be supervised on Saturdays. A picnic is planned this week and Murphy will announce the date to the youngsters.

Believe Aged Man Is Victim Extreme Heat
H. J. Aden, 75, was found unconscious at his farm home in Sidney Draw Saturday afternoon. John Owens, a neighbor, found Mr. Aden and summoned help to have him taken to the Taylor hospital, where his condition yesterday was said to be extremely critical. At first it was believed Mr. Aden might have been a victim of the heat. Hospital attaches said he probably will not live.

New City Well Halts After Brief Start
The new city well began operation Sunday but ran only a few hours before a loose connection forced shutdown for repairs. Water Commissioner Carl C. Jones and staff completed the fix yesterday morning. The well is needed to bolster the strained supply as the main north side well drops to record lows and restrictions may be needed without the new source. Mayor Roche said watering limits would likely have been imposed sooner without the new well’s potential.

Five inmates slipped from the Morrill county jail at Bridgeport Saturday night after sawing bars in two cells with hacksaws provided by an accomplice. The escapees include Joe Calvert and Jake Fields both serving one to five years for forgery, George Kennedy tied to a box car robbery, and Robert Salas and Fred Matheler described as Mexicans linked to a $200 Cox Company theft at Bayard weeks earlier. Kennedy is also tied to Burlington freight-car robberies under active investigation.

Millard Evans 35 of Scottsbluff died in Kimball hospital from injuries after a rented car returning from Cheyenne wrecked near Bushnell. Three other Scottsbluff barber shop porters were injured Carl Edmond 18 cut and bruised Guy Wiley 53 fractured arm and possible skull fracture Tom Murphy 35 fractured both legs. The crash occurred about 10 pm Thursday. they stayed at the scene until 6 am Friday before Deputy Don Tebrinke moved them to the Kimball hospital.
