Dog Locks Rail Threat to City of Los Angeles Streamliner
A dog, chained to a 50 pound rail in a farmer's yard, dragged the rail onto the Union Pacific right of way. The City of Los Angeles streamliner, traveling over 80 mph, struck the rail and freed the animal when the chain broke. Ties were damaged but the train remained on track and no injuries occurred.

The Al G Barners-Sells Floto circus played to fair crowds in Sidney on Monday. The Barnes-Floto menagerie was the largest ever seen in western Nebraska with eighteen elephants and cages of tigers and lions. Bert Nelson and his mixed lions and tigers act drew the crowd, though many other acts entertained as well.

Mr and Mrs Emil E Frostrum of Los Angeles celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at home in Los Angeles. Married in Sidney on June 23 1887 they lived in western Nebraska from 1887 to 1911 before moving via Banner county to Harrisburg and later Denver. Prisoner Blakely Escapes From Reformatory Nursery
Reformatory officials report Jack Blakely a 25 year old inmate serving 18 months for burglary in Cheyenne county escaped Thursday afternoon while working with peers trimming trees at the reformatory nursery. He is 5 foot 8 1/2 inches, 155 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. He entered the institution February 3.

Good Pasture Still Available In Valley
Ample pasture for several hundred head of livestock is available at the customary rates along the North Platte river. Henry Blome of Dalton reported to the Telegraph News yesterday that all of his pasture has been taken but that several farmers and ranchers in the area have good pasture to offer at fair rates, saving farmers from sacrificing livestock at below value prices.

Near Centenarian H B Thomas dies in Garden Grove
H B Thomas aged about 99 died yesterday at his daughter Mrs J O McKibbon’s home in Garden Grove Indiana. A Civil War veteran, he had lived with his son in Sidney Iowa for seven years and kept active despite failing sight and hearing. He would have turned 100 next month.

The state board of control reports half of the 30 counties completing rechecks of old age assistance receipts will not need to cut funds from revised July budgets. Six counties Arthur Cuming Gosper Madison Richardson and Saline pay budgets in full due to available funds. James Gould, operator of a small nursery in Sidney, exhibited a new insect that resembles a wingless locust. A Wyoming former resident labeled it Mormon cricket, a common Wyoming insect. The pests travel in a straight line and can be herded like cattle, making them easier to kill than grasshoppers.
