Police chief Sidney Moore and Special Officer Vizina repelled a gun attack in Garden City. The injured man later died. FBI fingerprinting identified Charles Kenneth Allen of Hutchinson as the slain suspect, an ex convict with tattoo initials C L E and alias Jack Allen linked to Denver tattoo bandit notoriety.

Desperate gun battle ends bank bandit chase in Sidney
Crowds filled downtown Sidney as police chief S H Moore and Special Officer Harvey Vizina hunted two bank robbers from Fort Morgan. In a rapid sequence the bandits were halted after a high speed chase, including a fatal shootout in the heart of the city. One bandit, Jack Allen of Denver, was killed. Myron Earl Howen died later in Garden City.

Dead Bandit and Police Who Got Him on Sidney Streets
A bank bandit was shot and killed by Special Officer Harvey Vizina during a gun battle with Sidney police on downtown streets. The wounded accomplice Glen Oldenberg, 22, was held hostage for over nine hours, later recounting escapes, stops across Colorado and Kansas, and the bandit’s plea to remove a shoulder wound on demand of a razor blade.

Hold Woman Pending Outcome Of Injuries
A woman identified as Lladys Brown of Chadron is held in the city jail pending the outcome of head injuries suffered by Miss Christofferson of Sidney. Police say Brown struck Miss Christofferson with a beer bottle during an argument. Miss Christofferson remained semi conscious at Roche Hospital with uncertain recovery. No formal complaint has been filed yet.
