City council directed city attorney to draft a beer ordinance for board consideration. Sidney discussions focused on equitably handling beer issues, with no definitive action until a model ordinance is reviewed. Two license fee plans were proposed, one with a three year base plus a $50 option, the other a flat $100 yearly fee. final decision pending.
A man named Monte Raymond White and a woman, Mrs Gladys VeLoar White, both aliases, are jailed pending arrival of a United States marshal. They were arrested at Bridgeport after traveling from Torrington Wyoming and brought to Sidney for a hearing before U.S. Commissioner Robert A Barlow. The man pleaded guilty. the woman claimed ignorance of the charge and later pleaded guilty as well.
Relatives of Nikolas Redeker from Rochester New York, a landscape gardener who went violently insane on a bus here last Wednesday night, arrived in Sidney Sunday and escorted Redeker to Ontario Oregon, his intended destination when custody was taken. He reportedly regained his mental balance and was calm when he left. He broke away Friday morning during transfer to a local hotel but was captured and returned to jail.
Wood 19 and Wilbert Shook 16 pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Kimball County Court. They admitted stealing wheat from R. D. and Gus Scheele at the Scheele farm north of Dix, with multiple sales totaling 389 bushels and earnings of 339 dollars, sentence to be set by District Judge Tewell.
Marshal Kenfield picked up a Buick sedan here Saturday night that had been stolen from August Linn of Kimball the same day. Two men fled the car just before Kenfield arrived. The vehicle was not damaged and Linn claimed it here Sunday morning.
The assault and battery trial of George Young versus Ray J Wills, both farmers from the county's northwest, was held in county court yesterday but not completed by late afternoon, delaying Telegraph News from obtaining the verdict.
Inflation in grain and a stock advance spurred heavy buying by the public. Wheat futures moved to about the dollar level, with gains of 57 cents in July 58 in September and 37 in December. Traders remain confident despite changes in government policy. Continued on page 6
Nebraska bank superintendent FE Luikart reports 15 million dollars in frozen real estate loans from closed banks may qualify for liquidation with federal land bank funds. Hogan, bank president, may discuss easing of these loans with Iowa and Nebraska authorities. Luikart doubts Iowa holdings reach 100 million but calls any movement a relief to depositors. He cites roughly 20 percent of Nebraska banks in receivership rely on real estate loans, often illiquid in downturns.

In Sidney and Cheyenne County an unemployment surge threatens families this winter, warned President R. E. Roche to the chamber of commerce. Road work ends soon after a $500 graveling contract, so few contracts remain. Some members urged reviving a property owner funded program to reduce charity rolls, while others warned against dwelling on pessimism.
The Nebraska spring pig crop is slightly larger than last year but well below two years ago, with a larger fall crop anticipated. Across the corn belt the spring crop rises modestly, while the October 1 marketing year hog crop is projected about 4 percent higher. Total pigs saved this spring reach 4,631,000 versus 4,406,000 last year and 5,460,000 two years ago, with an average 5.6 pigs per litter, up 5 percent from last year. Wenoco Oilers split a twinbill at Scottsbluff dropping game one 7 to 3 to Micek's pool hall and winning game two 11 to 3 against Western Public Service. Porter struggled early in game one as five Micek hitters crossed. in game two Hanson and S Witters led the offense with four base blows and two homers respectively.
The Sidney volunteer fire department launches its campaign to bring the 1934 Nebraska State Volunteer Firemen's Association convention to Sidney. A July 6 letter notes the town of 3500 is well located on Union Pacific, Burlington lines, and the Lincoln highway with a 2000 seat municipal auditorium as the meeting site.
Sheriff Schulz confronted William Wesley, a horse trader near the Colorado line, about attachment papers filed by Joe Deaver after a Wesley horse damaged Deaver’s car. Wesley resisted arrest and fought Schulz, ending with Schulz subdued but with Wesley jailed. Wesley expressed regret over his temper.
A heavy rain drenched the west Dalton region on Saturday night with up to two inches in places. The storm centered about 14 miles west and 2 miles south of Dalton, sending miniature floods through valley channels in the county while causing no damage. Farmers reported strong benefits to crops, especially spring grains and corn, with lighter showers in surrounding farming areas and broad county rainfall in the past ten days.
The vocational agricultural department announces the annual summer field tour this Thursday. The trip will be shorter than previous years to cover fewer areas while examining substitute crops for abandoned wheat land, pasture mixtures, and forage crops. Participants will view sorghum varieties by George Kavanaugh and L. D. Willey, with stops at feed lots nearing market finish.

Raymond Goding son of Mr and Mrs William Goding of Potter, once crippled since July 3 1932 after a truck accident, walked the hospital corridor last Tuesday. He had endured six weeks of treatment and two major operations. A year ago he faced critical injuries including a fractured hip and leg, crushed pelvis, ruptured bladder and intestinal injuries, but recovered after four operations and blood transfusions and returned home on schedule. The doctor this week said he should walk with only a slight defect that may disappear with time.
Summer session at the University of Nebraska lists nine Cheyenne county students among registrants. Sidney sends four, Lodge Pole two, Dalton two, and Potter one, with names including Supt. G F Liebenhorfer and J W Cochran. Dalton students pursue graduate work. Potter’s Viola Mudge is a teachers college sophomore.
L L Baughman living five miles north of Mitchell awoke to a porcupine crawling into his bed frightening him. He found an almost full grown porcupine had entered the farmhouse and climbed to the bed before being captured. The next day the animal was tied and taken to town for handling.
Nearly $60,000 is being sent out by State Superintendent Taylor to the 93 Nebraska county treasurers to be distributed to county schools. Nearly $425,000 is included in the state fund for distribution after $10,000 is deduced for tuition expenses for children of army and navy officers in Nebraska. Cheyenne county is to receive $3,611.31 as its share of the state money. Amounts to other panhandle counties are: Dawes $3,677.38 Deuel $1,478.85 Garden $2,142.52 Kimball $1,869.49 Morrill $3,900.21 Scottsbluff $8,974.64 Sheridan $4,005.75 Sioux $2,264.44.
The Potter village board signed a contract with Fairbanks Morse for a used 165 hp three cylinder diesel engine with a new generator and equipment at 8523 dollars. Payments are 42 equal monthly installments, starting 30 days after installation. A contingent clause delays final acceptance until August 7 to consider crop conditions.
Chief Carl Livoni arrested two colored women Sunday evening and ordered them to depart Monday morning. They had stayed about a week with two companions who fled town with their suitcases and money while the women remained jailed. Livoni said he knew their location and planned to recover the funds.
O. E. Forsling a federal prohibition agent for western Nebraska was operated on Monday at Kimbell for removal of a piece of steel thought. A piece of glass about an inch long was found instead lodged against the bone near an artery Forsling was injured recently during a raid.
A car owned by Charles Mulets, a local baker in Sidney, was stolen yesterday morning and had not been recovered by late afternoon. Sheriffs and officers in surrounding counties were alerted with a description and asked to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
