Thousands visited Sidney for the July 4 and 5 holiday drawing about 5 000 visitors from three states. Gov Roy L Cochran headlined events with a two mile parade and a fireworks display that night. Thomas Lumber won best float, Hands Dairy second, Osborn Motor third, with cowboys and a humorous oxen team float earning honors.

A striped blow fly found in Cheyenne county by J W Nielsen, a gang instructor, is attacking grasshoppers. The larva burrows into hoppers and feeds, while the insect dies on a grass stem. the larva matures into a cocoon after consuming the hopper carcass. Edwin Attebury, 12, of Sidney, was killed in a head on collision five miles west of Sidney when his eastbound car met a westbound vehicle driven by Jess Hudson of Lodge Pole.

Stop Sign Orders Approved by City Board
City council on Friday authorized the street department to buy stop signs or stop buttons for intersections in need. Some streets not yet under the stop law may be added to reduce accident danger. The meeting was unusually quiet.
Transient Held After Term Is Ended
The sheriff's office is asked to hold Michael Kopas a transient in custody by Atlas Finance of Bridgeport Conn for alleged sale of a car on which Atlas held a conditional sale contract. Kopas is serving a 30 day sentence in Cheyenne county jail for unlawfully boarding a train.

Tourist Is Injured In Unusual Mishap
Charles Batchelder of Lincoln about 50 fell into a 20 foot excavation at a filling station a mile east of Sidney while traveling west late Saturday night. He sustained a fractured skull and fractured ribs, was listed in critical condition, and initially thought to have brain concussion.

Kimball county and Sidney national farm loan associations built a buffer under a group management plan. Campaign to route Yellowstone tourists via U S 26
North Platte valley towns in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming joined to steer Yellowstone travelers from Sidney along U S 26 to Guernsey and then U S 87. The plan was unveiled at a chamber of commerce meeting with about 200 delegates from river towns. They claim routing over U S 26 shortens the trip by several miles compared with the U S 30 Lincoln Highway route via Rawlins.

Scotts Bluff County commissioners plan to switch the county to a cash basis immediately and to retire all outstanding bonds by July 1, 1942. Perkins Funeral Held At Crete On Tuesday
Funeral services for J. A. Perkins were held at the Crete cemetery Tuesday evening after family services at the Rice funeral home in Sidney. He died in Sidney on June 23 and is survived by his wife and daughter Mrs. Glen Thomas of Hastings, three sisters, a brother, and two grandsons, with burial in Crete.

Karl Friedrich Kohlschmidt 72 a Cheyenne county resident since 1918 died Friday after a short illness. Born in Germany he came to the United States in 1894 settling in Nebraska. He married Marie Gudl in 1892 and had five children. Funeral services were held at the South Divide Church with Rev Krohn officiating and burial in the church cemetery.
