Houge Funeral Rites Held Here On Sunday
Merle Renard Houge died in a Dallas hospital from burns suffered on New Year’s night. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran church with Rev. W. T. Kahse officiating and interment in Sidney Greenwood cemetery. Born March 16, 1907 at Edgeley North Carolina, he moved to Sidney in 1910, lived on a farm northeast of Sidney, attended rural and local high schools, and studied at Grand Island business college. He later worked with his father on the Houge farm and then entered the automobile business in Sidney, which brought him to Denver.

Pioneer Resident Dies In Bridgeport
George W. Minshall lifelong western Nebraska resident died January 18 at Bridgeport after a short illness. Born September 19, 1857 in Geneva Wisconsin he moved with his family to Missouri then Sidney Nebraska before homesteading near Chimney Rock in 1883. He lived there farming and stock raising, with roots in the community since the early days.
