Fewer Sheep Fed In Nebraska This Year
Nebraska fed sheep and lambs declined sixteen percent from the prior year to 565000 on January 1, the smallest in four years. The corn belt rose nine percent to 3447900, led by Iowa and Kansas, while Nebraska and Missouri fell. Nationally, total fed sheep increased six percent to 6224000.

Crop Loans Ready For 1941 Farmers In Four States
John T. Ashford of the Farm Credit Administration Omaha says 1941 crop production loans will be available early next month for Nebraska South Dakota Iowa and Wyoming farmers unable to obtain credit elsewhere. Funds cover those temporarily unable to meet credit requirements with 4 percent interest. Applications go through local county offices. As of Jan 1 1941 the Omaha regional office served about 177 500 seed and seed loan accounts in the four states.

State Engineer Scott reported 1941 highway funds total about 3.914 million dollars with equal state and federal shares. Col Robert S. Oberfelder 85 a Nebraska resident for 67 years dies at a local hospital. Brief Masonic rites will be held today at 12 from Gehrig Funeral Home. Born in New York City December 8 1855 he came west in 1874 and settled in Sidney Nebraska where he built Oberfelder's clothing store and later expanded into freight and hides deals with Indian tribes. He knew Wild Bill Hickok and other frontier figures.

A injunction action that may settle water rights for western Nebraska canals will be heard in Lincoln county district court. Judge J. L. Tewell overruled defendants motion, brought by Platte Valley Irrigation District and three Lincoln county land owners seeking $100,000 in crop damages due to water shortages. State officials and 15 western irrigation districts argue the case does not belong in Lincoln county. The case continues.

County Judge Robert A. Barlow fined Ed Gates $50 and costs on an assault and battery charge with Leslie Bentley as the complaining witness. Gates struck Bentley over the head with a club causing injuries needing a physician.
