Ellen Elswick 62 wife of W L Elswick died at their Gurley home Saturday after a three day illness from apoplexy. Born August 21 1874 in Clayton County Iowa she moved to Nebraska in 1883. Mary Tryon 25 of Scottsbluff was killed instantly in a crash near the city. Five others were injured four seriously including Faye Palmer Nina Peterson a nurse and Mr and Mrs Dale Kezar. Roland Nuckles escaped serious injury. Palmer and Peterson were rushed to Scottsbluff hospital. Palmer Peterson doctors held little hope for recovery.

War on Rabbits Opens to Cut Wheat Damages
Potter Nebraska spurred action by rabbit hunters from Potter Dix and Kimball to curb wheat damage. They killed over fifteen hundred jack rabbits in a Sunday drive nine miles south of Kimball yielding 902 and another ten miles north of Bushnell with over 500 killed. The entire kill sold to a fur buyer from Laramie Wyoming at seven and a half cents per pelt. Some farmers use poisoned corn to destroy rabbits while hunts continue.

A three-vehicle crash north of Sterling involved a Sidney resident. Harold Diel of Atwood braked, his car struck bridge railing and a truck driven by J E Barry of Grant, then another Sidney car driven by S E Showers collided with the railing after Showers braked. Diel was hospitalized. vehicle damage estimated at 75 dollars for the Diel car and 75 for the truck. Showers’ car sustained fender damage.

Survived by wife Sophia and ten children including Freda Brauer Albert Edward Walter Adella Koehn Gustav Alma Freerking Sophia Conner and Clara Deering plus 13 grandchildren one brother Fred in Mapleton and two sisters in Germany. Funeral services were conducted by Rev H F Krohn at St Pauls Lutheran with interment in Greenwood Cemetery Sidney.

64 Percent of Taxes Collected in 1935 36 Report
State Auditor Ayres reported that 48 counties reporting for the 1935 36 tax year averaged 83.79 percent real estate and personal tax collections with 16.21 percent delinquent. An Associated Press tally shows 299 people died in Nebraska auto accidents in 1936, below the 1935 figure of 320 but above the five year average of 276. Cheyenne county had two fatalities while Kimball, Duel, Box Butte, Dawes, Morrill, and Scotts Bluff counties reported multiple deaths. Six of Dawes county’s nine fatalities occurred in a single crash near Chadron.
